The Carlton hotels,
from Cannes to the world

There are many Hotel Carltons in France and throughout the world. Apart from the name "Carlton", they have no connection with one another ... "Carlton" is not a family name like "Hilton", a family that built a hotel empire, nor the name of a legendary hotelier such as César "Ritz".

Hotel Carlton.fr lists the most important establishments and endeavours to tell their respective stories.

The legends of the Carlton

Those who made the Carlton

In fact, "Carlton" is a name of Scandinavian origin meaning "free man". This is what inspired Henri Ruhl and Grand Duke Michael of Russia to call the future hotel at 58 Boulevard de la Croisette the "Carlton Hotel" or "Hotel Carlton".

Thanks to the influence and originality of a few truly extraordinary personalities, such as Henri Ruhl himself, Grand Duke Michael Romanov , Carolina Otero, Bendor, the Duke of Westminster and later Princess Grace of Monaco, the hotel became so legendary that it was dubbed "the second home of Hollywood" and inspired a great many other hoteliers around the world to call their hotels "Carlton".
